Fairport by Fairport, the first official book, out now

Fairport Convention celebrates the 45th anniversary of its formation this year and, to mark the occasion, Rocket 88 Books has published Fairport by Fairport. It is the first official history of the group, and true to its title, Fairport by Fairport, candidly tells the group’s story in the words and recollections of its past and present members, including Sandy.

Alongside the current line-up of founding member Simon Nicol, longest serving member Dave Pegg (who joined in 1970), Ric Sanders, Chris Leslie and latest recruit Gerry Conway, who joined a mere 15 years ago, are contributions from such pivotal players as Richard Thompson, Ashley Hutchings, Dave Mattacks,

Dave Swarbrick, Jerry Donahue and Judy Dyble. In addition, there are previously unpublished comments from Sandy and Trevor Lucas.

The commentary is entirely drawn from interviews conducted by Nigel Schofield who first saw the band perform in 1969 and first interviewed them the following year. Over the years since, Schofield has interviewed almost every long-term and ex-member of the band.

The first edition of Fairport by Fairport – limited to 2,000 copies - comes bound in traditional buckram cloth, and each copy is signed by the present band members. In addition to the handsomely produced 432 page book, the first edition includes a newly commissioned DVD documentary featuring key members of the band. The book is available from fairportconventionbook.com
